I know I have not posted in a while, but I am waiting for some information from the Texas State Library that I am requesting in Inter-Library loan. I will post some more as I receive it.
Wow. I didn't know that anyone was investigating this! My daddy said it would make a great movie when we first learned of it a few years ago. Al Lackey was my great great grandfather, my great grandfather was Samp Lackey. I haven't any info for you, as no one in my family knew of this incident until I found it about 8 yrs ago.
My Great great grandfather was one of the survivors that day. I started investigating this several years ago. The Lackey family has been very supportive.
Sampson married a woman Minnie Cox who I can find no info on as she died in a fire. They had 3 girls the youngest my grandmother Annie. He remarried, a woman named Cora Barnett. They had 6 children. My grandmother died in 1943 when my dad was a youngster so I have no connection to them really. Samp died 1-1-1957 and is buried in Fort Worth Texas. Nathaniel (Uncle Than) died in 1941 in Cleburne Texas, he married a woman named Daisy Maples. I have found out that Hattie (Harriet) married a man named Lee Autrey and she died in 1943 in Ft Worth. Annie Caroline married James Houser and died in 1910 in OK City. That is all I know about the children of Al and Aley, I have the names of 13 children though. Aley was married before Al to James Lackey and someone told me he died in the Civil War, they had 2 children. Aley died in Lawrence Kansas. That is the extent of my knowledge of that branch of my the tree. My family knew nothing of the murders until I found out about it and shared it with them!
This blog was set up to document my investigation into the Lackey Murders which occured in Blanco County Texas in August, 1885. This resulted in the tragic deaths of six people, the wounding of at least two and the hanging of the perpetrator.
Kenneth Merian, a descendant of John W. Nicholson (a survivor and my Great-Great-Grandfather.). And Ellie Lackey.
